Professor Sharlene Greenwood
Co-Founder & Chief Medical Officer
Sharlene is passionate about driving forward a tangible solution for routine access to kidney-specific lifestyle management support for all people living with chronic kidney disease and cardio-kidney-metabolic conditions.
More than 20 years ago, she began working with people living with chronic kidney disease for the first time and was struck by the lack of routine access to exercise-based rehabilitation available to this patient population. This experience shaped the direction of her career, leading her to spend the past two decades spearheading research and clinical implementation projects focused on addressing this inequity and improving access to specialist support and care.
Jamie Starr
Chief Marketing Officer
Jamie has over 18 years’ experience across communications, marketing and digital product development, including 7 years in health technology.
She is passionate about creating innovative products that genuinely improve people’s lives and make healthcare more accessible. Before joining Kidney Beam, Jamie was Marketing Director and Product Owner for one of the UK’s leading virtual care apps, Clinitouch. She has also helped launch a digital pharmacy for people with long-term conditions, worked on diabetes education programmes, and supported the launch of an international health charity focused on improving the lives of people living in sub-Saharan Africa.
She is excited to be part of Kidney Beam’s mission to support people living with kidney disease through accessible, patient-centred care.
Natasha Wynn
Studio Manager
Natasha has been working in the health and wellbeing industry for over 10 years, starting as a fitness instructor and personal trainer before moving into studio management and digital health. A former professional dancer, she lives with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, giving her first hand experience, and a unique perspective into the lives of people with chronic and long term health conditions.
Natasha also owns her own photography business, providing authentic visuals for people in the creative and wellbeing industries.
Meet the Clinical Team
Mrudula is a 78 yr old lady with chronic kidney disease (CKD). She is approaching end stage where she will need to commence dialysis treatment or have a kidney transplant.
Mrudula has reported struggling with her walking and getting up and down stairs, and feels anxious and worried about how she is going to cope.
If Mrudula had a cardiac, pulmonary, or even cancer diagnosis, she would get routine access to specialist rehabilitation at a local hospital.
But, because there are very few units that offer kidney-specific services of this kind, she isn’t able to access the care she desperately needs to stay independent and have a good quality of life.
We created Kidney Beam to offer exercise and lifestyle support for all people living with CKD, just like Mrudula.

Our story
While there is no cure, helping people with kidney disease to increase their physical activity levels and improve their lifestyles can have a big impact on health outcomes.
That is why co-founders Katie Bell, a tech entrepreneur, and Professor Sharlene Greenwood, a consultant physiotherapist and exercise professor, came together to create Kidney Beam.
Launched in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic - which significantly affected people with kidney disease who were forced to self-isolate, leading to an increase in physical inactivity - Kidney Beam has now delivered over 25,000 online classes and is being rolled out across the UK’s NHS and internationally.
We are proud and humbled to have been recognised for several healthtech industry awards for our’s and our partners’ work supporting people with kidney disease and other associated conditions:
Winner - "Best Digital Health Solution" - Prix Galien Awards 2025
Winner - "Company Generating Greatest NHS Benefit" - DigitalHealth.London Accelerator
