Kidney Beam and our partners at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have been Highly Commended in the "Most Effective Contribution To Improving Care For Those With Long Term Conditions" category at the HSJ Partnership Awards, held in London to recognise the collaborations between industry partners and NHS organisations that are delivering meaningful progress on the ground.

Hosted by the Health Service Journal, the Awards received 240+ entries, with 160 projects shortlisted, and just 25 winners selected by a panel of expert judges.

The commendation came following the joint collaboration between King’s College Hospital and Kidney Beam to create our pioneering digital exercise, education, diet and coaching app tailored specifically to meet the needs of people living with chronic kidney disease and its associated risk factors.

The app helps people with kidney disease to become more physically active, improve wellbeing, and learn more about managing their condition, helping to slow down disease progression and improve their health.

In a landmark clinical trial published in the Lancet Digital Health, it was clinically proven to provide significant improvements in mental health-related quality of life, physical function, fatigue, social engagement, and patient self-management behaviour - plus significantly lower costs of care for the NHS.

Professor Sharlene Greenwood, Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Kidney Beam, and Consultant Physiotherapist at King’s College Hospital, said: “We’re very happy to have been recognised by the HSJ with this award, which shines a light on the best people and projects across the NHS who are improving outcomes for patients nationwide.  People living with kidney disease face many challenges in remaining active and well, and I’m proud of everyone from both King's and the Beam Team who have worked hard to make vital support for this often-overlooked patient group.”

Katie Bell, CEO and Co-Founder of Kidney Beam, said: “What a fantastic achievement to see the work by both King’s and the Kidney Beam Team recognised at such a prestigious event. We have worked hard to ensure the app not only meets the needs of people living with kidney disease, but also that of the healthcare system delivering the care. These awards serve as a reminder of all the brilliant partnerships across the NHS delivering real impact for patients.”
