Bridging the gap: Revolutionising kidney disease management with Kidney Beam

As the Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Kidney Beam, my journey has been driven by the pursuit of an accessible way to deliver kidney-specific lifestyle management support for everyone living with chronic kidney disease. Two decades ago, my introduction to people living with the condition exposed a startling gap in their care—a lack of routine access to exercise-based rehabilitation. This was the start of my life’s work and passion -  bridging this divide.

Where it all began

For the past 20 years, I've dedicated my time to leading research endeavours and clinical initiatives aimed at addressing this inequality in patient care. I completed a PhD studying the impact of exercise-based rehabilitation throughout the kidney disease pathway. As President of the UK Kidney Association,I spearheaded advancements in patient care in this field.

Yet, it wasn't until of Kidney Beam that I found a tangible solution to this long standing challenge. Kidney Beam stands as the embodiment of our collective vision—a groundbreaking platform designed to provide individuals with chronic kidney disease the tools and resources they need to thrive while living with a chronic condition.

Hybrid care is the solution

As I lead the Kidney Beam team alongside my co-founder Katie, I'm driven by the belief that everyone, regardless of their situation, deserves personalized kidney-specific lifestyle support. I’ve recently become an NHS Innovation Accelerator fellow and look forward to using this opportunity to push our innovation forward within the NHS. By working with Renal Clinical Networks the UK Kidney Charities together, we are pioneering a new era in kidney disease management. One where empowerment and digital innovation intersect to redefine standards of care and transform lives.

The future

We're dedicated to achieving complete NHS commissioning in the UK, but as we look ahead to the future, our goal goes beyond borders. 

We’re expanding our efforts to reach those in underserved areas worldwide where access to healthcare is limited. To achieve our mission, we're currently in the midst of our seed investment round.
