Clinicians, we need you!

A clinician and patient in a consultation room, the clinician is handing the patient an information card about kidney beam

As well as being co-founder Kidney Beam, our Chief Medical Officer, Sharlene Greenwood is also a consultant at King’s College Hospital, so we know how busy it can get in clinics. We want to make it easier for you to encourage your patients to sign up and start feeling the benefit from getting active on Kidney Beam, so in this blog post, you’ll find tips on how to explain Kidney Beam succinctly, some resources for you and your patients, and further information on what we have to offer both clinicians and patients.

Telling your patients about Kidney Beam

Simply put, Kidney Beam is an exercise and lifestyle management platform designed to help people live well with kidney disease. Exercise can feel like a daunting prospect for someone who perhaps lacks mobility, is de-conditioned, or has not taken part in physical activity for an extended period of time, so when talking about Kidney Beam, we want to highlight that our focus is community, education and wellbeing as well exercise and physical activity. As well as this, we have a wide variety of classes for all different abilities.

  • Live classes have the option to take the class in a seated position

  • Dedicated seated exercise programmes

  • The option to complete on demand classes at a time and pace that suits the patient

  • Wellbeing sessions such as mindfulness, meditation, and creativity

  • Education sessions on nutrition, diabetes, blood pressure, goal setting and more

Remind patients that while they are benefitting the classes and content, Kidney Beamers also report that they enjoy the community aspect to Kidney Beam as well. While there’s no obligation to get involved with live classes, Kidney Beamers find it helpful to chat to other patients, sharing stories and experiences with their peers who understand what each other are going through.

Technical assistance for your patients

We offer technical assistance calls to help patients set up their accounts and get started on Kidney Beam. These calls are conducted on Zoom, and take attendees through every aspect of the site, covering all bases:

  • Setting up a new account

  • Starting introductory programmes

  • Finding on demand classes

  • Signing up for, and attending live classes

Patients can follow along with one of the Kidney Beam team to complete their set up and familiarise themselves with the platform.
